Reference name : Viscose · regenerated cellulose
Sources consulted on 2026-10-06 · Textile fibres · Regenerated cellulose
Role and characteristics
Viscose is a manufactured cellulose-based fibre. Cellulosic origin does not mean directly harvested like cotton. Process and fabric construction matter.
How to choose
Compare drape, opacity and ease. Read the label and test movement; weight and blends can make viscose fabrics very different.
Distinguish from
Viscose, modal and lyocell are regenerated-cellulose fibres with different process definitions. Bamboo alone cannot identify a processed fibre.
Limitations and considerations
The name alone cannot establish environmental impact, forest certification or exact care. Origin and production claims need separate evidence; follow garment instructions.
Frequently asked questions
Can fibre name determine care?
No. Blends, finishes and accessories can change instructions. Read the whole garment label.
Is viscose cotton?
No. They are distinct fibres; cellulosic origin does not make them interchangeable.
